Your donations help me investigate important political and social issues.  These issues are often hugely important but are typically overlooked (or given superficial treatment) by the mainstream press—such as the Venezuelan Coup of 2002.

I am currently working on two projects (see below) that seek to advance social justice and transparency in Venezuela. I also hope to begin research on a narrative account of the 2009 Fort Hood shootings.

So please give.  Your donations will allow me to do the type of independent investigating and reporting that I love; work that I believe makes a difference.

Current Projects:

A documentary film based on the Venezuela’s coup.

I am currently working with a producer and a director to create an English-language production of the The Silence and The Scorpion.  The film will provide the same detailed “clocked” chronology as my book; alternating perspectives (pro- and anti-Chávez) to give a complete 360° panorama of those turbulent three days. It will also set the record straight concerning the human rights violations perpetrated during and before the coup; violations that have been covered up or distorted by many. The ultimate goal of the documentary is attract international media attention to the coup and to put pressure on the Venezuelan government to allow a truth commission—something that it has refused to do for the last ten years.

The Light Project

The light project is an initiative to provide free copies of The Silence and the Scorpion to Venezuelan schools and universities.

As you may know, the government’s control of textbooks and the teaching curriculum is a large part of their program of censorship.  By providing teachers and administrators with alternative texts, you can help make sure that students have access to a history not sponsored by the Chávez government.
